i really miss those memes i used to see go around all the time that were like “the third sentence on page 29 of your favorite book now describes your life, how screwed are you” because it kind of recalls the ancient roman tradition of the “sortes virgilianae,” where you would open a copy of vergil’s aeneid (and lbr if you were an ancient roman the aeneid probably counted as your favorite book) and then predict your future from whatever verse it opened up to. it’s one of those tiny ways in which we can see a civilization long past in ourselves and it fills me with an immeasurable delight to imagine an ancient roman reblogging a meme like that
